SNP has its priorities badly wrong

4.48.55pm GMT Thu 25th Feb 2010

Commenting as the Scottish Government publishes its draft independence bill, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP said:

“As always the SNP puts the politics of narrow nationalism ahead of the interests of Scotland.

“The Electoral Commission states that no referendum can happen until at least six months after an Act of Parliament.

“There is no majority for a referendum in Parliament.

“There is no support in the country for independence.

“Independence isn’t going to happen.

“So we have a so-called Government obsessing about something that isn’t going to happen.

“Today in Parliament we are demanding action on schools and work to keep communities safe. Why does the SNP think something that isn’t going to happen is more important than schools and Scotland’s police?”
